wrapping it up

Lately I have really been loving how kraft paper and baker's twine look together! I've been using them both for packaging stationery for a while now. Since the baker's twine is red and white, I decided to use them both for wrapping presents this year. I really love how they are turning out! For small items and gift cards, I took some Martha Stewart advice and used shredded paper-filled glass jars. For the finishing touch I used one of Martha Stewart's punches to recreate a whimsical white gift tag to tie to the presents. Wrapping presents might be my favorite part of the holidays!

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

holiday decor

In my quest to add some holiday cheer to my boyfriend's apartment, I stumbled upon some very unique and inspiring holiday decor ideas. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to go "overboard" here. . . maybe these ideas can help some of you guys go where I can't go in the quest for holiday cheer. :)

Classic Black and White with a Modern Twist

New Wedding Invites - Lauren and Jake

I had a great time working with Lauren and Jake to create their wedding invites. They had their eye on the g&g design early on. I was thrilled they decided to go with that one since it is one of my favorites! We decided to use a new trend for addressing the envelopes. They turned out great and the couple loved them.

I've posted a couple of pictures below of the final product. The last picture shows how the address wraps around the back to show the return address.

Sticker Fun!

I recently purchased an awesome and cheap new toy. . .Xyron 250 Create-a-Sticker.
This fun little machine came in handy for my recent wedding invitation project.
We decided to address the invites using a cool new "address wrap" design.

Here are some pics from my adventure.

inspiring others

I was honored recently to be the topic of "Invitation Inspiration" on a Wedding Blog, Adam-N-Andi Get Hitched. Andi is a blogging mommy as well as a work-at-home web designer. I feel particularly honored that I have inspired her since she herself is a designer! She is a great writer, and I truly enjoy following both her blog and on twitter. You can read her post below.

Thanks again Andi!

Invitation Inspiration
2009/06/09

I still haven’t decided what to do about my invites, but I was recommended to visit Ms. Erin Vince, at Evince Design.   Her work is gorgeous, btw. If I was going the ‘custom wedding invitation‘ route, she’d be my first phone call.

You know, I can make a pretty picture but true graphic artists of the print variety know how to handle paper.  They know the ins and outs of printing methods, ink colors and saturations, die cuts and folds.  I really think it’s just as technologically complex as web design, when you step beyond the Vistaprint’s and Moo’s of the world.

And that’s what I’m worried about.  I think I’ll design something nice; something cool and decently reminiscent of our own style – but I won’t have that awesome creativity that comes with complete immersion in the paper world.
Adam suggested we do evites.  Seriously.

There are some things I won’t do digitally.

Anywho, Erin is unbelievably creative.  Each piece of the stationery package is individually designed/cut/folded (as you can see in the pic) – and she knows how to work within a budget (or totally blow one if you’re able with sweet letterpress printing).  If I had a spare $800 lying around, some sweet custom invites from Evince Design would be at the top of my list  (hercustom baby announcements are pretty damn cute, too).

proud...

Feeling very proud to be an American today. Proud to know so many men
and women who have served this country (including my boyfriend).
Proud.
DC does that to me. The monuments, the memorials, the constitution on
display for all to see.

Proud.
Happy Memorial Day!

inspiration can come in many forms . . .

I love when inspiration just hits me. I often go looking for it . . . and come up short. I took a big leap to find it this week and fell. (more like FAIL) That's too harsh. Let's just say it wasn't as great as I had hoped.

{Let me explain}

Monday I left DC at 5:30 am to fly to NYC for the day to attend the National Stationery Show. I have so many and yet so few things to say about my experience there. My head's not put together enough just yet to write the words though. So, for now, I'll explain were I DID find my inspiration this week. I wasn't even looking.

Someone wrote me a message on my Etsy account today. Though I could read the message via my email, I had to login to respond to the message. As soon as I got into my mailbox I saw a message I had sent to an artist on Etsy a while back. (I don't have anything for sale on Etsy right now, so I rarely log on.) I had discovered a while back that Leanne Marshall, Project Runway's most recent winner, had been selling her clothing on Etsy. I was SO moved by her clothes on the show that I sent her a message just to let her know how talented I thought she was. Let me just say . . . I heart PR! I mean I really really love that show! But Leanne's line of clothing was BY FAR the most beautiful and inspiring I had seen to date. Normally I never would have messaged a complete stranger in such a manner, especially a now famous one. But . . . I was inspired!

So today, feeling a bit overwhelmed, exhausted, confused, discouraged, and challenged to get my creative juices going, I saw the message I had sent Leanne many months ago. Of course she didn't respond . . . she's famous now! Seeing the message made me decide to google her and she what wonderful things she is up to now. I clicked through the beautiful pictures of her new clothes and her awesome line from PR and began to feel a little smile come across my face. Something amazing was happening . . . I was INSPIRED! By a clothing designer!

Paper, clothing, textiles . . . design is design I guess??

I immediately got my juices going again and got through my busy day with flying colors! So, thanks Leanne. Thanks for pulling me out of my paper funk.

And for those of you who are in a funk. Look and be amazed . . . again.

i {heart} letterpress

Yesterday I visited a very small local letterpress company. It was SO cool! I really do love letterpress. I'm hoping to get more involved with it in my designs. I may even take a class from them to learn myself. I would really love to get a small press and print some of my own cards. Advice on the matter is welcomed!
